Obituary

Roger Dale Phillips passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at his ancestral home in Hilham, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer.

Born at home on July 5, 1948, to Earl and Agnes Phillips, Roger dedicated his life to serving others. His distinguished law enforcement career spanned more than 30 years and included service as a deputy with the Overton County Sheriff's Department, Chief of the Livingston Police Department, Interim Director of the 13th Judicial District Drug Task Force, Meth Lab Remediation Specialist with the Meth Task Force, and Director of the Overton County Anti-Drug Coalition.

Following his retirement from law enforcement, Roger answered a different calling and became pastor of New Life Community Church. For 17 years, he faithfully shepherded his congregation, sharing God's Word and ministering to countless individuals and families throughout the community.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Agnes (Carter) Phillips; his sister, Pam Phillips Kem; and his brothers, Joe (Gary Ralph) Phillips and Dearl Phillips.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Sharon Glasscock Phillips; his children, Charles Phillips, Barbie Phillips Wright and her husband Tim Wright, Anthony White, Tanya Crawford, and Erin Phillips Bullard and her husband Eric Bullard; 12 cherished grandchildren; 16 beloved great-grandchildren; his sister, Trish Phillips Webb; his brother, Tom Phillips; his aunt, Inez Phillips Young; and a large and loving extended family.

Roger was a man of honor, integrity, and unwavering conviction. He was deeply devoted to his family, cherished his home and heritage, and lived a life grounded in his faith in God. Whether serving his community through law enforcement, ministering to his congregation, or spending time with those he loved most, Roger led by example and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

His greatest joy was his family. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and his love, wisdom, and guidance will continue to shape their lives for generations to come.

While his physical presence will be greatly missed, the legacy he leaves behind lives on through his beloved wife, children, 12 cherished grandchildren, 16 treasured great-grandchildren, and the many lives he touched through his service, faith, and friendship. His love and influence will endure far beyond his years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Roger's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service. A reception will be held afterward at the Chamber of Commerce in Livingston.
