Ms. Mertie K. Smith of Moss passed away Friday Morning, April 28, 2006 at the Cumberland River Hospital. Ms. Mertie K. Smith was born in Clay County on April 15, 1917 to the late Willie and Flora Denton Armer. She was a homemaker and a member of the Union Hill Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Husband Earnest Smith, sister Jewel McBride, brothers Delbert and Sam Thomas Armer, and grandchild Connie Jo Smith. Survivors Include sons Willis Smith of Moss and Weldon Smith of Whitleyville, six sisters--Essie Smith of Whitleyville, Lassie Short of Gallatin, Ruby Odle of Indiana, Elese Moore of Westmoreland, Weltha Strong of Moss, and Lovie McLerran of Celina. Serving as pallbearers were Butch Burnette, Barry Collins, James Key, Randy Strong, Eddie Tallent, and Thomas Watson.
