Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Matthews, age 77, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee.  She was born on Tuesday, June 3, 1947 in the Poplar Springs community of Overton County, Tennessee to the late Lenoard and Ora Martin Langford.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years: Earl Matthews; sisters-in-law: Judy Langford, Frances Matthews, and Pauline Spicer; brothers-in-law: Horace Matthews and Claude Matthews.

Mary is survived by her daughter: Sherry (Chris) Clinard of Hardy's Chapel, Tennessee; granddaughters: Krista (Christopher) Cross of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Brittany (Nicholas) Rush of Allons, Tennessee; great grandchildren: Kaylee and Sawyer Cross; brother: Billy Langford of Cookeville, Tennessee; sister: May Dean Langford of Cookeville, Tennessee; sister-in-law: Lena Matthews; brothers-in-law: Clarence Spicer and Hoyt (Louise) Matthews; nephews: Steve Langford of Hardy's Chapel, Tennessee, and Randy Langford of Cookeville, Tennessee.

Mary loved crafting, working with flowers/flower arrangements, flower gardening, and taking care of the babies in her family.  She grew up attending Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

The family will welcome friends at Hall Funeral Home, 2106 Cookeville Highway, Livingston, Tennessee on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and then again on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Matthews will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Hall Funeral Home, 2106 Cookeville Highway, Livingston, Tennessee with Bro. Rick Cross officitating.  Burial will immediately follow the funeral services in the Poplar Springs Cemetery in the Hardy's Chapel community of Overton County, Tennessee.
