Livingston- Nina
Price
Jun 23, 1929 — Oct 20, 2018
NINA VIORA PRICE , was born in Harriman, Tennessee on June 23, 1929. She was the first of 6 children and lived the first and most formative years with her grandparents, the Futrells ( FEW -trells). When her father left the family, Nina had to return to live with her mother, Dora Bagwell, to help raise the other 5 children. Later, and even though she was a straight A student, she had to quit school at age 13 to get a job to help with her family again. Times were really tough but they all made it because everyone pitched in.
Later, Nina moved to Dayton, Ohio with her cousin after getting hired at Delco Moraine. There she met Dean Price, from Caney Creek, Tennessee. They married and stayed in Ohio, and raised their two children, Mary-Jane and Ron Price. They lived in Ohio for many years but returned to Caney Creek after Dean retired.
Nina has always been a devout Christian, raising her children through the Church of Christ. Up until these last few years because of poor health, she attended church every time the doors were open. God, her family and friends, and her country were the most important things to her. She was the guiding light for her children and is loved by them more than words can express.
Some interesting facts about Nina: She was a devoted animal lover and rescued many a dog or cat that that her children dragged in. She loved to read books about early America, when times were more genteel and civil. She loved music, especially the Irish Tenors. As the entire family had been told, we were of Irish descent; their music caused her great pride. Then we found out we were actually of Scottish descent but that didn't dampen her love of the Tenors, especially Anthony Kearns, who we heard singing the eulogy.
She wrote a semi-autobiographical booklet about her years growing up in the "holler" which she shared with her children. It was full of love, hard times and some bad times. But she loved being brought up in the time of innocence, as the book demonstrated. She was honest to a fault, was a great cook, and volunteered her time with the Church to visit those in need.
She didn't learn to drive until she was in her 30's. She couldn't dance, couldn't swim or ride a bike. She didn't know how to play cards and didn't have a cell phone or a computer until she was in her 80's. She had a hate/love relationship with her personal computer but did it anyway to send daily emails to her children.
She never met a stranger as she LOVED to talk to anyone . That's what her family will miss the most….the way she instantly welcomed you into her life. God blessed her with an inquisitive nature, a need to learn, a loving soul, and a love of God, country, and family.Nina (Bagwell) Price , 89, passed away on October 20 th , 2018 in Byrdstown, Tennessee.
