Deceased: Ms. Eva Nell (Brown) Redmon Hillman age 87 of Murfreesboro, TN passed away at the Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro on Thursday, October 22, 2015.
Personal Info: Ms. Eva Nell Brown was born in Celina, TN on February 29, 1928 to the late Sam Turner and Gladys (Gilpatrick) Brown. She was a member of the Leanna Church of Chris, Kappa Delta Pi Organization, DAR and Civil War First Families of
Tennessee, and a Dog Animal Shelter Supporter. She was a Professor of Nutrition and taught pre-medical, pre-nursing, and dietetics.
For a Christmas present one year she asked Bill Redmon for money to enroll at David
Lipscomb University. She proved she could not only attend college but ended up as a
Professor teaching nutrition and in charge of the Home Economics department. Then
David Lipscomb awarded her a scholarship to work on her Doctorate at the University
of Tennessee. She worked there for several years and made many friends. This was one
of the favorite periods of her life. She also worked at Opryland Hotel and met many
country music stars.
She travelled all over the world and had wonderful experiences in her life.
In her younger days, Eva and Bill ran a Dry Goods store in Celina for many years.
Her husband Bill passed away after 50 plus years of marriage.
After Bill passed away she moved to Murfreesboro to be closer to her family and
lived at Adams Place independent living. While there she met John Hillman and they
were married on St. Patrick's Day March 17, 2005. They enjoyed ten years of marriage
with traveling, adventures and companionship.
All of Eva's nieces and nephews were considered and treated as her own children. She
loved, advised and help many of them financially.
She donated to many charities like St Jude's, Downs Syndrome Awareness, the Heart
fund and Cancer research.
Her best friend was Lady her dog. Lady passed away July. 1, 2013. She said that was
her gift to God. Her love of Lady is memorialized on her tombstone.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Bill Redmon, father Sam Brown, mother
Gladys Brown, brother Brownie Brown and sister in law Norma Brown and brother in
law Dick Royse.
She is survived by her husband John Hillman of Murfreesboro, sister Dora Walker and
Lewis Walker of Tipton Indiana, brother James Brown and Evelyn Brown of Moss and
sister Jean Royse of Murfreesboro. There are also many loved nieces, nephews, and
extended family and friends.
Funeral Services for Ms. Eva Nell Hillman will be held Monday, October 26th at 1 PM from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home in Livingston with interment to follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be on Monday, October 26th at the Hall Funeral Home in Livingston from 11 AM until 1 PM.
