Obituary
Mrs. Edith Marie Carter Sells, 84, of Allons passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Overton County Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since March 1, 2012. She was born in Overton County on April 16, 1928 to John and Elizabeth Richardson Carter.

She was a devoted wife and mother, a great country cook, and a hard worker. Prior to retirement, she was employed in the dietary department at Livingston Regional Hospital for 17 years. She was a member of Allons Church of Christ and attended faithfully until afflicted by poor health. In her retirement years, in addition to spending time with family and friends, she enjoyed reading the newspaper, working crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and the evening news on TV. She was a longtime fan of the Atlanta Braves and loved watching their games. She also enjoyed women's college basketball, especially the Tennessee Lady Vols.

Her proudest achievement in life, and recipients of her unconditional and undying love, was her family, who returned her love in kind. "Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." (Proverbs 31:28) She will be missed.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, James Milbern Sells of Allons (whom she married November 14, 1946); one son and daughter-in-law, James M., Jr. and Vivian Sells of Livingtson; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janice Sells and Ernie Hassler of Cookeville, June Sells Collins and Danny Collins of Allons, and Jeanetta Sells of Livingston; six grandchildren, Jamie Sells, Joseph Sells, Jennifer Collins Ellis and husband Jim Ellis, Jason Collins and wife Kelley Gray Collins, Stacy Sells Shaw and husband Jeremy Shaw, and Bobby Sells, all of Livingston; 14 great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, John Hoy and Elsie Smith Carter, Stanley and Geneva Booher Carter, and Estelle Cyphers Sells, all of Monroe; three sisters, Hazel Irene Carter of Livingston, Betty Carter Verble of Algood, and Anna Lou Carter Gabbard of Troy, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son (born and died December 19, 1959); an infant grandson, Wesley Andrew Sells (born and died March 14, 1977); two brothers, Coy Carter and Jerry Carter; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Floy Carter Harvey and Onus Harvey Henrietta Carter Leske; four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Thurman Sells, Truman and Geneva Garrett Sells, Hurfert Sells, and Dallas Gabbard; and her parents-in-law, James William and Stella Dennis Sells.
