DECEASED: Mr. Claude Smith age 89, formerly of Warren, Michigan and of Livingston, TN passed away on Tuesday morning, June 24, 2014 at the Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville, TN
PERSONAL INFORMATION: Mr. Claude Smith was born in Kettle Island, Kentucky on January 3, 1925 to the late Samuel and Amanda Helton Smith. Claude served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a special vehicle operator in Belguim, France and Germany. After honorable discharge he worked as a coal miner in Kentucky and Tennessee, then at Hudson Motor Company and Budd Wheel in Detroit before beginning a 25 year career as a Laboratory Technician at Allied Materials in Detroit from which he retired in 1979. He retired to Livingston, TN with his beloved wife, Joanna, where he enjoyed tending his huge garden. After the death of his wife in 2008, he was slowly overtaken by dementia. Claude spent his final two years at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville, TN.
SURVIVORS: 1 Son: David Smith and his wife Sandra of Michigan. 2 Grandchildren: Jennifer Slivatz, Todd Taylor-Hazel. 4 Great Grandchildren: Jessica and Jacob Slivatz and Ben and Max Taylor-Hazel.
PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to his parents: His beloved wife Joanna who passed away in 2008. 3 Brothers: Irving, Charles, and Tommy. 4 Sisters: Eva, Edna, Geneva, and Charlotte.
SERVICES/BURIAL: Services for Mr. Claude Smith will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2014 @ 10 AM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home in Livingston, TN with burial to follow in the Overton Co. Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, June 30, 2014 4pm to 8pm. Officiating will be Bro. Aron Dillon
