Obituary

Hugh L. Ogletree, Jr., age 78, of Livingston, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on October 11, 2026.

Born in Cookeville, Tennessee, on July 3, 1948, he was the son of the late Hugh and Betty June Price Ogletree Hunter.

Hugh L. graduated from Livingston Academy in 1966 and married his high school sweetheart, Linda Fay Conner Ogletree of the Monroe community on October 22 of the same year. He was a hard worker from an early age. As a teenager, he was employed by Paul Bowman at Bowman’s 5 &10 making floral arrangements and working on Paul’s farm. James McCormick taught Hugh L. how to paint and install and finish hardwood floors, skills he enjoyed and carried with him for the rest of his life. Hugh L. met many of his lifelong friends while employed by Lowell Stephens, Danny Smith, and Waymon Baltimore at People’s Dairy where he had the opportunity to travel all over Overton County delivering milk and ice cream to homes, schools and stores. He was elected to the office of Overton County Clerk in 1978, and he held the office until he retired in 2014.

Hugh L. was a member of the Livingston Church of Christ. He is remembered for the kindness and generosity that he shared with everyone he met. He was always quick to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He is also loved and remembered for his mischievous pranks.

Hugh L. had many interests and talents; he enjoyed being outside and searching for arrowheads, hunting, fishing, working with horses, gardening and farming. He stayed busy working with his hands, and he was always working on a project, repairing and refinishing all things.

Hugh L. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda, and their two daughters Tamara and Kristian Mansell of Hilham, TN, and Tonya and Steven Sims of Allons, TN; grandchildren, Adam (Victoria) Mansell, Heath (Jessi) Mansell, Wyatt Mansell, Andrew Mansell, Clinton Mansell, Alexis Phillips, Allison Ford, Jaxson Sims, and Will Sims; great grandchildren, Asher Murdock and Remi Phillips; brother Robert Ogletree of Livingston, TN, sisters Diane Johnson of Kingsport, TN, Jennifer Maulding of Livingston, TN., and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Hugh L. was preceded in death by his brothers David L. Ogletree and Mark S. Ogletree, his father and mother-in-law Kermit and Nellie Adell Mullins Conner.

Visitation with family and friends will be held from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home on Saturday, October 24 from noon until 8:00 PM, and a Celebration of Life service will follow on Sunday, October 25 at 2:00 PM. A private graveside service will take place later at Holly Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Livingston Church of Christ or Happy Haven, a Christian home for children.
