Herbert Dishman, age 96, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away on April 20, 2026. Born on December 29, 1929, in Livingston, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Will Dishman and Lou Ellen Bilbrey Dishman and began his life in a log cabin in Copeland Cove.

At just 14 years old, he started working in a sawmill, beginning a lifetime of hard work and dedication. At the age of 17, Herbert moved to Indiana, where he held various jobs before entering the United States Army. He proudly served during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Mary Alice Brown Dishman, and together they raised their children in Indiana.

Herbert worked for Emge Packing Company as a beef boner for 26 years before retiring in 1992 and moving back to Tennessee. Outside of work, Herbert enjoyed watching NASCAR, raising a garden, tinkering with small engines, and most of all, spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his love of family, his mechanical skills, and the simple joys he found in life.

He is survived by his 6 children, Roger Hooten, Steve Hooten, Barbara Hinkle(Kerry), Wally Dishman(Karla), Will Dishman(Beth) and Keith Dishman(Kira); 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Alice Brown Dishman; daughter, Erma Dale Hooten Short; 4 brothers, Oscar Dishman, Bethel Dishman, J.T. Dishman, and Fred Dishman; and his sister, Gladys Gore.

A graveside service will be held June 27, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the Liberty Cemetery in Livingston, Tennessee. Pastor David Hill will be officiating.

Herbert will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
