Donnie Gene Long, 71, of Celina, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 9, 2017, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born January 4, 1946, in Cumberland, Kentucky, the son of the late Dempsie and Annie May Short Long. He was married to Shelvie Roach, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a school bus mechanic for the Clay County Public Schools before his retirement.
Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Shelvie Long, of Celina; one son, James Carl Blakley, one daughter, Anna Jean Long, both of Celina; one brother, Paul Robert and wife Joanna Long, of Anderson, Indiana;
one special niece, Christi White; eight grandchildren, Lindsay Blakley, Marty Blakley, Ryan Blakley, Rebecca Kinney, Jordan Kinney, Brookelyn Qualls, Madelynn Qualls, and Lonnie Qualls; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Wright- Blakley, Harley Wright-Blakley, Hayley Wright-Blakley, Landon Wright-Blakley, Aaliyah Collins, and Juliana Hagan; other relatives, and friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Donnie Clay Long, and Lonnie Shane Blakley, and two brothers, Cecil Howard Long and Maxie Glenn Long.

Visitation is at the Hall Funeral Home in Celina, where friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Thursday, July 13. Funeral services for Mr. Long will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at the Hall Funeral Home in Celina with Willie Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in the Roach & Short Cemetery in the Pea Ridge Community. At the request of the family, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Vanderbilt University Medical Center Trauma Center, or donations toward the funeral expenses.
